UPU Electoral Committee Sets December 5 for National Executive Council Election

The Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), the foremost socio-cultural organisation representing the Urhobo Nation, has announced that elections into its National Executive Council will take place on December 5, 2025, at the UPU House, Uvwiamuge-Agbarho, Delta State.

The announcement was contained in an official notice issued by the UPU Electoral Committee (UPUEC 2025), signed by its Chairman, Hon. Chief Engr. Emmanuel Ighomena, Secretary, HID Robert Onome (JP), and Member, Chief Meg Atano.

According to the Committee, the election timetable and guidelines have been released to all President Generals of Urhobo’s 24 kingdoms, presidents of UPU branches worldwide, the Council of Representatives, and leadership of both the Women and Youth Wings of the Union.

The election process will begin with the publication of the primary notice of election on September 25, 2025, followed by the sale of forms on October 25, 2025, at the UPU Hall, 18 Okere Road, Warri. The deadline for submission of forms is fixed for October 31, which also marks the commencement of campaigns across the 24 kingdoms and UPU branches.

Screening of aspirants will hold on November 10, 2025, at the Warri UPU Hall, with the list of successful candidates published on November 16. Campaigns will officially end on November 30, ahead of the main election on December 5.

The Committee stated that the office of the President General and all other executive positions are open for contest by qualified Urhobo sons and daughters from the 24 kingdoms.

In outlining the voting structure, UPUEC explained that eligible delegates will include all aspirants (voting for themselves), 20 delegates per kingdom, members of the National Executive Council, members of the Council of Representatives, four delegates from each active branch, as well as the executive members of the UPU Women and Youth Wings.

On the issue of nomination forms, the Committee announced that the cost varies according to the office being contested. The form for the position of President General is fixed at ₦500,000, while that for the Deputy Presidents and the Secretary General is ₦400,000. Aspirants seeking the offices of National Treasurer, National Financial Secretary, National Auditor, National Legal Adviser, and National Publicity Secretary are to pay ₦300,000, while those vying for the assistant positions, including Assistant National Financial Secretary, Assistant National Legal Adviser, Assistant National Secretary, and Assistant National Publicity Secretary, will pay ₦250,000.

All payments are to be made to the UPU Electoral Committee 2025 account at FCMB (Account Number: 0901428018).

The Committee urged all aspirants, delegates, and branches of the Union to adhere strictly to the electoral timetable and guidelines, assuring that the process will be transparent, inclusive, and reflective of the unity and progress of the Urhobo Nation.
