Dear Sir,
FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OROGUN AND OIL AND GAS INDUSTRIAL PARK: AN APPEAL FOR YOUR INTERVENTION WITH PRESIDENT TINUBU
I extend to you my warm greetings and compliments. I trust that you are keeping well.
I write in my capacity as the President General of Orogun Kingdom to respectfully draw your attention to two matters of significant importance to our Kingdom and the broader development interests of Delta Central. We believe that your considered intervention and guidance on these matters would contribute meaningfully to ensuring a fair, informed and development-focused outcome.
The first is the reported conversion of Model Technical College, Omadino, into an Omadino Campus of Federal Polytechnic Orogun.
The second is the reported relocation of the Oil and Gas Industrial Park from the Sanubi-Orogun axis.
Your Excellency, these developments have generated considerable concern among our people. We therefore appeal to you, as Governor of Delta State, to use your good offices to engage the Federal Government and, particularly, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to ensure that these investments are protected and allowed to deliver their intended benefits.
FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OROGUN
Federal Polytechnic Orogun is barely three years old and remains at a critical stage of institutional development.
For the 2025/2026 academic session, the institution admitted 637 students and now has 19 NBTE-approved programmes across four schools.
We believe that the immediate priority should be to consolidate and substantially develop the original Orogun campus with the infrastructure, laboratories, workshops, equipment, library, staffing and other facilities required for a strong and sustainable federal institution.
We therefore respectfully appeal to Your Excellency to seek clarification from the Federal Government on the approval or directive upon which the proposed Omadino Campus is based.
If the initiative is the result of a formal Federal-State arrangement, we respectfully believe that its terms should be made public.
Orogun Kingdom is not opposed to the development of technical education elsewhere in Delta State. Our concern is that expansion should not precede consolidation or weaken the original Federal Polytechnic Orogun campus.
THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRIAL PARK MUST REMAIN AT SANUBI-OROGUN
Your Excellency, we are equally concerned by reports that the Oil and Gas Industrial Park may be relocated from Sanubi-Orogun.
For Orogun Kingdom, this is a matter of serious importance.
The project has the potential to drive industrialisation, employment, investment and economic activity in Orogun and the wider Delta Central region. Its benefits can also extend naturally to neighbouring Eku-Agbon and Abraka communities, whose people stand to benefit from the economic opportunities associated with the project.
We recognise that legitimate issues concerning land, ownership, technical requirements or environmental considerations may arise. Such matters should be properly investigated and resolved through consultation, due process and credible technical assessment.
If there are land issues, let them be resolved.
If there are technical concerns, let them be assessed.
If there are environmental concerns, let them be addressed.
But none of these issues should become an automatic justification for relocating the project from Sanubi-Orogun.
Our position is unequivocal: the Oil and Gas Industrial Park must remain at the Sanubi-Orogun axis. There should be no relocation.
Sanubi has access to the River Ethiope and a natural waterfront, while the Eku-Orogun-Abraka corridor provides road connectivity. The area’s proximity to oil and gas resources also makes its suitability worthy of objective consideration.
If there are concerns about the suitability of Sanubi-Orogun, we respectfully ask that the relevant technical, environmental and feasibility assessments be made available and subjected to transparent scrutiny. Any identified shortcomings should be addressed through appropriate engineering, infrastructure and other remedial measures rather than used as a basis for relocating the project.
YOUR EXCELLENCY, WE NEED YOUR INTERVENTION
Your Excellency, we respectfully appeal to you to take this matter up with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the relevant Federal Government authorities.
As Governor of Delta State, you are in a strategic position to protect investments that can contribute significantly to the economic development of our State.
We particularly ask you to intervene to ensure that the Oil and Gas Industrial Park remains at Sanubi-Orogun and that Federal Polytechnic Orogun is consolidated and substantially developed at its original location.
We also appeal to you, as the leader of the APC in Delta State, to prevail on Senator Ede Dafinone, as a Delta Central leader and a member of the Senate committee exercising oversight over the project, to protect the legitimate interests of Orogun Kingdom and the wider Urhobo interest.
We have taken note of Senator Dafinone’s public declaration that he has never supported and will never support any attempt to deprive Urhobo of the economic benefits of the project. We welcome that declaration, even though it lacks specificity as it relates to Sanubi-Orogun.
That said, there is a growing perception among people in the affected communities that the project may be relocated from Sanubi-Orogun.
Whether that perception is correct or not, it should be addressed through clear and demonstrable action.
As the Senator representing Delta Central and a member of the Senate committee exercising oversight over the project, Senator Dafinone occupies a position of responsibility. The people will naturally look to him to explain his position and actions concerning the future and location of the project.
We therefore respectfully urge Your Excellency to prevail upon him to use his office to protect the legitimate interests of Orogun Kingdom and the wider Urhobo interest.
We equally recognise that Agbon and Abraka Kingdoms have their own traditional institutions and leadership. We do not presume to speak for them. However, given their proximity to the project and the benefits they stand to derive from it, we believe their interests should be recognised and protected.
OUR SUPPORT FOR THE MORE AGENDA
Your Excellency, we wish to place on record the support of Orogun Kingdom for your administration and the MORE Agenda.
We recognise the importance of your development agenda and believe that Orogun Kingdom has a responsibility to support initiatives that promote the progress and prosperity of Orogun and Delta State.
It is in this spirit of partnership that the leadership of Orogun Kingdom wishes to pay a courtesy visit to Your Excellency at a date convenient to you.
The visit will provide an opportunity to formally interact with you, express our support for the MORE Agenda, discuss the development priorities of Orogun Kingdom and strengthen the relationship between the State Government and our people.
Our appeal concerning Federal Polytechnic Orogun and the Oil and Gas Industrial Park is therefore made in the spirit of mutual respect and constructive engagement.
The development of Orogun is part of the development of Delta State, and the prosperity of Delta State is the prosperity of all our people.
OUR APPEAL
Your Excellency, we respectfully ask you to:
- Intervene with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that the Oil and Gas Industrial Park remains at Sanubi-Orogun.
- Seek clarification from the Federal Government on the reported relocation of the project.
- Seek clarification on the Federal Government approval or directive for the proposed Omadino Campus of Federal Polytechnic Orogun.
- Advocate for the consolidation and substantial development of the original Federal Polytechnic Orogun campus.
- As APC leader in Delta State, prevail on Senator Ede Dafinone to protect the legitimate interests of Orogun Kingdom and the wider Urhobo interest.
- Grant the leadership of Orogun Kingdom a courtesy visit at a date convenient to Your Excellency.
Your Excellency, Orogun Kingdom remains committed to peaceful dialogue, consultation and lawful engagement.
We trust your leadership and appeal to you to use your good offices to protect these important investments and ensure that they deliver the development benefits for which they were established.
