As Christians all over the world woke up today to celebrate the commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, residents of Ughelli would have been thrown into a state of sorrow, tears, mourning and trepidation as unknown gun men riddled with bullets, the body and vehicle of one of Ughelli’s illustrious sons, Chief Henry Ovoke Oshasha, on Saturday, April 3rd 2021, with the aim of killing him, leaving blood and shattered widescreen in its trail.

The amiable Chief Oshasha, who is a Justice of Peace, attributed the failed assassination attempt on his life as a fall out of the worsening security situation in Ughelli, which has gained notoriety in recent times as one of the epicenters of violent crimes occasioned by the EndSARS protest.
Chief Oshasha, who holds the traditional title of “Isio R’ovie (star of the king) of the great Ughelli Kingdom, stated that “if not for the grace of God, had the assailants succeeded, my wife would have been made an emergency widow and my five lovely young children would have lost their father”

While thanking God for his deliverance, Chief Oshasha, who is also the CEO of Voke Star Oil & Gas Ltd, enjoined family and friends to “please help me thank God who has done this for me.”
Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff to the Deputy President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and General Overseer of Palace of Priests Assembly, Pastor Otive Igbuzor PhD, has condemned the assassination attempt, describing it as despicable, in an exclusive chat with Niger Delta Monitor, stating that the sanctity of human life is sacrosanct and no one has the right to take another’s life as contained in the laws of God and as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Dr. Igbuzor, while describing Chief Oshasha’s miraculous deliverance “as an act of God”, called on the police authorities to “unmask the identity of the assailants and slam the full force of the law on them.”

Not deterred by the sad and unfortunate incident, Chief Oshasha, who is an APC chieftain, expressed his unshaken confidence in the ability of the Nigerian Police to tackle violent crimes while calling on citizens to support them. In his words, “in situations like this, we don’t have any other authority to run to than the Nigeria police.”
Thereafter, Chief Oshsha, who is a renowned philanthropist and Chairman of the Ughelli Palace Building Committee of Ughelli Kingdom, tasked the Nigeria Police to put the past behind them and be upbeat about securing the lives and properties of Nigerians. Put in his own words, “let’s move our country forward by getting rid of all bad eggs in the system and help bring the perpetrators of my assassination attempt to book.”
