The Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun (Barr.) Jaro Movudu Egbo, KSC, has called on leaders of the seven kingdoms within the council area to step up mobilisation for the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

At a stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday with representatives from the kingdoms of Ogor, Ughelli, Agbarha-Otor, Orogun, Evwreni, Agbarho, and Uwheru, as well as leaders of political parties and INEC officials, the council chairman expressed concern over what he described as a low turnout across several communities.

Olorogun Egbo appealed to community leaders to intensify sensitisation among their people, noting that voter registration remains the foundation of democratic participation. “The statistical data from INEC show that turnout for the CVR is still low in many areas. I urge our leaders to mobilise their members and ensure that every eligible citizen registers. It is the first and most vital step in the electoral process,” he said.

The council chairman assured the commission of his administration’s full support to ensure a smooth and credible exercise. He described the registration process as essential to strengthening representation and inclusiveness in local governance.

During the interactive session, several participants raised concerns about logistical challenges faced by registrants at INEC offices, including delays and incomplete processing. Many, they said, had spent time and resources without success.

Responding, Olorogun Egbo directed the INEC representative to introduce a ward-based schedule to ease access and ensure orderly participation. According to him, the revised plan will begin with Federal Ward One (Agbarha-Otor) from November 3 to 7, 2025, followed by Ward Two (Ogor) the following week. He encouraged political, youth, and community leaders to organise their members to take advantage of the exercise.

The meeting drew a broad representation of leadership across Ughelli North, including the President General of Orogun Kingdom, Chief (Barr.) E. T. Opone, and his Deputy, Chief Austin Oghenesivwohwo, alongside their counterparts from the other six kingdoms. Also present were youth and women leaders, representatives of the royal fathers, political party executives, INEC officials, and other key stakeholders.

The session ended with renewed commitment from all sides to ensure that the turnout for the ongoing voter registration reflects the population strength of Ughelli North, setting a stronger foundation for fair participation in future elections.
