OROGUN, DELTA STATE | SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2026

Orogun Kingdom on Saturday gave Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, CFR, former Deputy President of the 9th Senate, a rousing homecoming as his political consultation with stakeholders of Orogun Ward 1 and Ward 2 turned into a colourful carnival of solidarity.

The gathering attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, community stakeholders, women and youths, with a traditional cannon salute, a vibrant Ukere dance display and thunderous chants marking his arrival.

Beyond the celebration, the occasion reflected Orogun’s appreciation of Omo-Agege’s contributions to the kingdom and its resolve to stand by a son whose political interventions have been associated with major development projects in the area.

Among those who accompanied him were Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC); Chief Ominimini Ubiuwevbi, House of Representatives candidate for Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency; and Mr. Jimmy Idiovwa, candidate for Ughelli North Constituency I in the Delta State House of Assembly.

Several prominent kingdom leaders also attended, including His Eminence O.M. Anuku, the Adjerese of Orogun Kingdom; Chief Jones Esombi; Chief Pius Ovbije; Chief Amos Agboje; Mrs. Regina Edeki; Prince Henry Efe Duku; Chief Barrack Ozor; Chief O.J. Orogun, JP; Chief Chuks Erhire; Chief Grace Usirare; and His Lordship, Prince Oghenerhoro Awaritoma Omosogba, NDC Chairman, Orogun Ward 1.

‘MMADU AGHARE NWANNE N’OGU’

The defining message of the homecoming came through an enduring Orogun proverb: “Mmadu aghare nwanne n’ogu.”

The expression conveys the principle that one does not abandon a brother in the middle of a struggle.

For the people, it represented reciprocal solidarity with Omo-Agege, whom they regard as a son who has stood up for Orogun, the Urhobo nation and Delta State.

Women at the gathering reinforced the sentiment with chants of “Ovie Omo-Agege na you we want!” while another group declared, “We will work with Agege in order not to go home empty-handed.”

Their message combined appreciation for past contributions with expectations of further development opportunities.

‘MY THOUGHTS ARE ALWAYS ABOUT HOW OROGUN WILL MOVE FORWARD’

Addressing the gathering, Omo-Agege reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Orogun, the Urhobo nation and Delta State, saying their progress occupies his thoughts from morning till night.

“When I wake up in the morning, my thoughts are always about how Orogun Kingdom will move forward. When I am about to sleep at night, I ask myself what I will do when I wake up to make Urhobo move forward, what I will do for Orogun to move forward and what I will do for Delta State to move forward,” he said.

He stressed that securing development opportunities from Abuja requires determination, effective representation and the willingness to fight for one’s constituency.

“Abuja is not a place where they will call you and say, ‘Take this one.’ That is not how it is done. It is a fight they fight over there. The one you can fight for and bring back home is your own,” he said.

He maintained that political office must be used to pursue the interests of the people and secure opportunities that translate into tangible development.

OMO-AGEGE RALLIES SUPPORT FOR OBI, IYOVWAYE, OTHERS

The former Deputy Senate President also called on Orogun people and Delta residents to support the NDC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He canvassed support for Mr. Peter Obi for President, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye for Governor of Delta State, Chief Ominimini Ubiuwevbi for the House of Representatives and Mr. Jimmy Idiovwa for the Delta State House of Assembly.

His appeal presented a coordinated political agenda across the presidency, governorship and legislative institutions, with an emphasis on political change, effective representation and better governance.

DEVELOPMENT RECORD AND EXPECTATIONS

The enthusiastic reception was also linked to development projects associated with Omo-Agege’s political career, particularly Federal Polytechnic Orogun, Defence Space School and the proposed Oil and Gas Industrial Park.

These projects hold significant prospects for education, employment, skills development, investment and economic growth across the kingdom.

While acknowledging the interventions, the people expect their completion, consolidation and effective utilisation, alongside further initiatives that will improve livelihoods and expand opportunities for residents.

In a defining moment, the Adjerese of Orogun Kingdom, His Eminence O.M. Anuku, described Omo-Agege as “the architect of modern Orogun,” in recognition of his contributions to the kingdom’s development.

The consultation also provided a platform for grassroots mobilisation around the political messages of Restoration of Urhobo Greatness and Reset Delta and Nigeria.

Saturday’s homecoming combined cultural celebration, political consultation and recognition of past interventions with expectations for the future.

Omo-Agege came home to consult with his people. He was received with a cannon salute, traditional dance, chants and an emphatic declaration of solidarity.

The message from Orogun was clear: “Mmadu aghare nwanne n’ogu.” A community stands with those who stand up for its interests, while expecting that solidarity to translate into continued development.
