Powel House emerge winner of Orogun Grammar School 2023 Inter-House Sports Competition

In a display of athleticism and team spirit, students from various houses of Orogun Grammar School, Orogun, Ughelli North LGA competed in the 28th annual Inter-house Sports Competition held on Thursday, March 23rd 2023.

The event kicked off with an opening ceremony, featuring a march-past by the students from all levels from the different houses, accompanied by their respective bands. The atmosphere was electric as students, teachers, and parents cheered on the participants.

The highlight of the event was the track and field events which featured sprints, relay races, long jump, high jump, and shot put. The spectators were thrilled as they watched the students showcase their speed, agility, and strength.

At the end of the day, Powell House (Green)230 points emerged as the overall winner of the competition, scoring the highest number of points across all events. The following Houses also put up a commendable performance, and their efforts were duly recognized: Akpore House (Purple) with 216 points came 2nd, Salubi House (Red) with 207 points came 3rd, School House (Blue) with 188 points came 4th, while Ejaife House (Yellow) with 146 points came 5th.

The NEC body of OGSOSA presented Medals and cash awards of N7,000, N5,000, and N3,000 respectively to the Most Outstanding Athletes who put in their best efforts to earn points for their houses and vie for the coveted trophy to the following students for the female category: Aghogho Umudjere (Green House), Joyce Akposheri (Purple House), Oke Odirin (Green House); while Frank Wanogho (Green House), Emmanuel Paul (Green House), Ofor Clement (Purple House), won same for the male category.

The school principal, Mr. Osasa T.O, expressed his satisfaction with the event, stating that it was a great way to promote healthy competition and team spirit among the students. He also commended the students for their exemplary behavior and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

High point of the competition was the presentation of cash awards to support sports development in Orogun Grammar School by the following Old Boys of the school: Evang. Godspower Odenema (PGWW OGSOSA) – N100, 000, Chief Do-Good O. Efe-Nogo (Oruese 1 of Orogun)- N200, 000, NEC body of OGSOSA -N50, 000, Engr. & Mrs. Felix Akpobaro N20, 000.

Other dignitaries who graced the occasion include Director, PPEB Ughelli, Mrs Okpogoro, Chief O.J Orogun (JP), Rev. Ichipi Joshua, PTA Cairman, Mr Johnson Erhirhie and some excos of the PTA, among others.

The inter-house sports competition which was adjudged a huge success, was refereed by Comr. Gabriel Adogbeji and the students are already looking forward to next year’s event with excitement.
