The Delta State Executive Council, on Thursday, approved multi-billion naira infrastructure projects and the release of N6.7 billion in counterpart funding to access UBEC grants, while also endorsing the appointment of new traditional rulers across the state.
Among the approved monarchs is His Royal Majesty Okorocha Emoghene Osuokpa I, formally recognized as the 39th Okpara-Uku of Orogun Kingdom in Ughelli North LGA. The 104-year-old monarch made history as the first university graduate to ascend the throne, following his coronation on August 21st and 22nd, 2024.

The Oborevwori-led administration’s endorsement of HRM Osuokpa I reflects a broader commitment to cultural continuity and enlightened leadership. His emergence also marks the first time two successive monarchs—HRM Omoefe Ozenikpe I and HRM Osuokpa I—hail from the same community of Obodeti, a historic first in Orogun’s lineage.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the Exco meeting focused on infrastructural renewal, educational development, and the strengthening of traditional institutions in line with Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda.
Other approved monarchs include the Obis of Ubulu-Okiti, Ukwu-Oba, Issele-Azagba, the Ovie of Igbide, and the Orovworere of Effurun-Otor.
As Delta State invests in roads, schools, and heritage, the rise of HRM Osuokpa I stands as a beacon of tradition meeting transformation.
