MBIRI, DELTA STATE — The 50th coronation anniversary of His Royal Majesty, Obi (Dr.) Ifeanyichukwu Alekwe II, the revered Obi of Mbiri Kingdom, has drawn heartfelt tributes from family, friends, and well-wishers across Nigeria, celebrating five decades of visionary and peaceable leadership.

In a special message, Orogun-born Mr. Sylvester Nkwo of Ughelli North Local Government Area, son-in-law to the monarch, extended warm felicitations to the traditional ruler on behalf of himself and his wife, Mrs. Chiweta Nkwo. He described the royal father as a man of rare wisdom and compassion whose life and reign have deeply inspired many.
“You have been more than a father-in-law to me; you have been a true father in every sense of the word,” Nkwo stated. “Your kindness, generosity, and unwavering love have touched my life and that of my family in countless ways. Your prayers and fatherly guidance continue to inspire us deeply.”
Nkwo expressed gratitude to God for preserving the monarch’s life and granting him the grace to lead his people with humility, foresight, and compassion.
“As you mark this golden milestone, we give glory to Almighty God for your life and leadership,” he said. “Your reign has been one of peace, progress, and unity—a true reflection of divine kingship. May the Almighty continue to bless you with greater wisdom, strength, and good health.”
Mbiri Kingdom, one of the eleven Ika clans in Delta State, traces its origin to a hunter named Arun, who migrated from Benin and founded the present-day community. The kingdom, governed by an Obi in the Benin monarchical tradition, sought formal recognition from the Oba of Benin around 1915. Located along the Benin–Asaba–Onitsha highway in Ika North-East LGA, Mbiri is largely agrarian and noted for its rich cultural heritage, deep communal values, and enduring spirit of unity.
Under the reign of Obi Alekwe II, the kingdom has witnessed steady advancement in education, infrastructure, and cultural renewal, reflecting his dedication to the progress and wellbeing of his people.
The golden jubilee of his reign thus stands not only as a personal milestone but also as a celebration of Mbiri’s tradition of peace, growth, and stability.
“Obi Agu! Long may you reign in peace, honour, and divine favour,” the goodwill message concluded.
